Author(s): Yogendra Kumar, Rameshwar Prasad, Chameli

The nature and magnitude of association among 13 characters and their contribution towards leaf yield was carried with twenty five genotypes of Amaranthus (Amaranthus spp.)  collected from various agro climatic zones of Chhattisgarh and were evaluated during Rabi 2014-15 in randomized complete block design with three replications to quantify the association between leaf yield and its components. Results revealed that the leaf yield (kg) plot-1 was recorded having positive and significant correlation both at phenotypic and genotypic levels with seed yield (gm) plot-1, petiole length, leaf breadth, leaf length, number of branches plant-1, stem girth plant-1 and test weight. Hence, the characters namely leaf yield plot-1, high plant height, more number of leaves plant-1, number of branches plant-1, high leaf length and high leaf breadth recorded to be key traits and given prime importance while making selections for improvement of Amaranthus for Chhattisgarh Plains.
