During the last few years, researcher consider the suspension culture for production of those valuable phytomolecules in Ocimum sanctum which possess antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor, anticancer and antiplasmodial activities and show potential health benefits. Plant cell suspension culture is an effective and alternative technique to produce these compounds in sufficient quantity in shortest period at a minimized cost. The manipulation of plant growth regulators is essential to optimize the growth of cell in suspension culture. Among the various 2,4-D (0.2,0.4,0.6,0.8,1 µg/ml) concentrations, combination of 2,4-D (0.1,0.4 µg/ml) and Kinetin (0.1-0.5 µg/ml). Results found that cell growth were highest in nutrient MS medium supplemented with 0.2 μg/ml 2,4-D, highest number of cells and CO2 dissimilation occurred in cell suspension culture medium supplemented with 0.2 µg/ml 2,4-D.
