A global positioning system (GPS) based soil survey conducted during the year 2007-2008 at Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Institute  of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi with an objective to find out the soil organic matter status in soil around Hindustan Aluminum Company using GPS. The global positioning system (GPS) based thirty soil samples from a depth of 0-15 cm were collected and analyzed for pH (Soil Reaction), EC (Electrical Conductivity), and OC (Organic Carbon). A result reveals that the pH of soil of the study area ranged from 5.2-8.5, electrical conductivity varied 0.125 to 1.190 d Sm-1 and soil organic matter were ranged from 1.51 to 11.40.
