Evaluation of novel action fungicides against Ustilaginoidea virens causing false smut of rice

False smut of rice has become a very important disease of wet season rice in India. Seven fungicides were tested for their efficacy against false smut of rice under field conditions during 2008-2009 crop seasons. Tilt 25 EC treated plots produced minimum disease incidence of 4.0 % while, Kocide 3000, Blitox 50WP, Amistar 25SC, Hexadhan 5EC, Score 25 EC and Indofil M-45 (75WP) treated plots  produced 12.3, 7.8, 10.1, 9.0, 8.5 and 13.5% disease incidence respectively than 27.7% in control. The study concludes that Tilt 25 EC (0.1%) was most effective fungicides against false smut of rice under natural conditions when sprayed at boot stage of the crop followed by another spray at 10 days interval.
