Studies of molecular diversity in selected maize germplasm

Author(s): Surendra Kumar, Rajesh Singh

The present investigation entitled “Study of Molecular Diversity in Selected Maize Germplasm” was undertaken to study genetic and molecular diversity study of selected maize inbred lines. Eight maize inbred lines were analyzed using ten morphological traits to study the diversity among them. The data generated was used for various statistical analysis viz; Analysis of variance, Phenotypic and Genotypic coefficient of variability, Heritability and Genetic Advance. In the molecular diversity analysis a set of eight maize inbred lines were selected so as to analyze the molecular diversity among them using SSR markers. Seven primers, viz. bmc1621, bmc1169, bmc1520, bmc1523, umc1062, bmc1456, bmc2241 out of 10 primers studied failed to amplify any band and showed monomorphic pattern. The range of PIC value varies from 0.75 to 0.86. The maximum PIC value was found 0.86 of primer bnlg292 while lowest PIC value was found 0.75 of primers phi093 and umc1051.The eight cultivars of maize formed Four major clusters in the dendrogram prepared using the data set generated by SSR profiles.
